Why I don't drink coffee, I take tea, my dear.

I think we could all use a little distraction. Desperately, actually.

The United Kingdom (and other bits and bobs) explained.

  1. Brilliant! I would add only that the collective term "British Isles" is not considered useful in Ireland, either the Republic or several neighborhoods in the Six Counties where this is some historical resentment to having been collected at all.

"Well, then, what DO you call them?" I asked my cousin.

"We call this one 'Ireland' and we call that one 'Britain,'" he replied.

Great explanation, but at least slightly out of date; Tristan da Cuhna ceased being a Dependency in 2009. It is now be a full fledged member of the Commonwealth.

BTW, its grouped with Ascension and St. Helena.

  3. Fun! Educational! As one of my "I hate admitting this" confessions, i had no idea that Canada's population was greater than Australia's.

  10. Ahhh! Peter Trei! I should have guessed. I'm floored by how many r.a.c.s. denizens come by now and then to check out this blog. Floored and humbled. They're a quality bunch.

  12. Your departure....and Mike's....and Sherwood's....and....the list goes on...

...are the subject of many a regular lament in r.a.c.s. A sentiment I share most deeply.
