How to Survive a Canadian Winter

Veronica on the heating grate underneath the china cabinet. For her, this, and the bed upstairs, are the house in winter, with short sufferable and necessary stops by her kibble dish which lies somewhere between.

(Incidentally, she has repeatedly shown the necessity of 'break-away' collars by getting her ID tag caught in the Victorian grillwork of this grate... every once in awhile we'll find her wandering around 'naked' and find her collar stuck on the grate.)

At least someone's getting the benefit of all that hot air blowin' up through there, that we're paying for.

I'm hoping there are also "short sufferable and necessary stops" at something else, as well.

Oddly enough, of all the cats and dogs here in Ft. Harrington, only one has figured out that the floor's heating vents are wonderful for soaking up heat on cold winter nights: Fonzie. Yup, the whacked-out, brain-scrambled, old freakoid himself. More proof that, while certainly crazy, he's not stupid.

Oh, and Veronica appears to fit the description that Raul's vet used to hang on him back in his massive prime: a "substantial kitty."

XE: yes, I just wrote a blog post on how the lousy rotten weather is affecting us. Your sympathy is much appreciated.

Sherwood: How wonderful that it's Fonzie who figured out the secret!

Veronica is indeed "a substantial kitty", although she prefers the term "cobby". She was put on a diet when she hit 5.5 kilos (12.5 pounds) and has since settled back to a shade over 5k, (11 pounds), which her vet thinks is appropriate for her body type. We had to stop free-feeding, and they're now at 3 controlled-portion meals a day, and have to feed her and Mojo separately, as she will eat all her food and then his.

The things we do for these felines.
